The Opportunity
WSDOT is eager to hire a journey level highway maintenance professional to be a valuable team member of our Northwest Region Pavement Marking crew in Seattle, WA. This position provides traffic control and highway maintenance support for all Northwest Region Pavement Marking crews and the Area 51 Sign crew. This position supports WSDOT’s mission by ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods, services, and people throughout the region. What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Highway Maintenance Worker 2 will:

Operate Thermoplastic truck and applicator to install various pavement markings.
Install various pavement markings, including but not limited to, Crosswalks, Turn Arrows, Crosswalks, Railroad Crossings Etc.
Maintain and make minor repairs to equipment as needed.
Load / unload equipment for daily operations.
Maintain accurate inventory of materials used daily.
Assists crew lead with layout and removal of all pavement markings.
Uses various hand and power tools, including but not limited to, shovels, pry bars, brooms, blowers, pavement grinders, and torches.
Train and mentor new employees proper thermoplastic truck operation and pavement marking application.
Plans traffic control, Flagging, Operating pickups, and impact attenuator trucks with arrow boards/VMS signs for mobile operations.
Fills in for striper white/yellow gunner/driver and Raised Pavement Marking (RPM) setter on RPM truck as needed.
Perform traffic control for Northwest Region Striping, Thermoplastic, Raised Pavement Markings, and Area 51 Sign crews. Assists with installation, removal, and repair of highway signs.


Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

High school graduation or GED
Two (2) years of highway maintenance, logging, farming, excavation, or heavy equipment experience OR One (1) year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 1 or equivalent.
Valid Washington State CDL Class A driver’s license with endorsement “N” and without air brakes restriction.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. in a safe manner.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

Washington State Traffic Control/Flagging Card
Crane Certificate.

The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
